What's the time frame for the experiments, what level undergraduate and can you leave experiments overnight?
Ah. How silly of me. Apologies, and here they are:I've also tried calculating with sodium and with a charge of 2+... I've been focusing on the 441 peak, because it's so close to my product, but I'm quite curious about the base peak at 921. Analogues of this compound have been known to dimerize in the MS, though.I have a feeling it's something to do with the ethoxy leaving groups part way through the Pictet-Spengler. But not entirely certain. Seems the NMR is on the lab computer, so I won't be able to get it for a couple of days.
As you have the ChemDraw, can you paste in the MW of the compounds you've drawn, just so we don't have to calculate them all to compare to the MS?
As the International Year of Chemistry comes to an end, it’s worth looking back on some of the amazing contests and events that took place. Many of them have left behind lasting resources that will be useful for decades to come. The Future We Create A group of 30 of the brightest minds in chemistry [...]
The goals of IYC2011 are to increase the public appreciation of chemistry in meeting world needs, to encourage interest in chemistry among young people, and to generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry. This quote from the chemistry2011.org About IYC page gives us chemists a charge: Embrace the concept that 'Science is for Everyone' [...]
A few Andreas Feninger photos found at the Library of Congress are shown below. The New Idria mine was a productive mine and smelting operation in central California. Note the fellow at the tilted sorting table, physically agitating the mercury from the solid soot and allowing it to run down the table for collection. This is a gravity [...]
Via: PerceptionBuilder.com I couldn’t resist posting this map. Just how many myths are there involving cannons? Judging from Mythbusters, there must be quite a few because they are always blasting something. There is a job I’d love to have.
